Ad Skipper — Privacy Policy

For Prime Video, Hotstar, YouTube & SonyLiv

Extension: Ad Skipper for Prime, Hotstar, YouTube & SonyLiv (Chrome extension)
Version covered: 1.0.0
Last updated: 2 November 2026

In short: Ad Skipper skips ads on the four sites listed below. Its ad-skipping works locally in your browser — it does not require an account, and Ad Skipper's own code does not send your browsing or viewing history to the developer. One optional exception exists on Prime Video only: the optional “viewing insights” sharing described in Section 4, which you can turn off at any time in the extension's Options page.

1. Who we are

Ad Skipper (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”) is a browser extension developed by the publisher of this website. This policy explains what information the Extension accesses, stores and — only in the one optional case in Section 4 — transmits, and how you can control it. By installing and using the Extension you agree to this policy.

2. Single purpose

The Extension has a single purpose: to automatically skip or block advertisements while you watch videos on Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar / JioHotstar, YouTube and SonyLiv, so playback continues with fewer ad interruptions. Each site can be switched on or off independently from the Extension's popup. The Extension does not change any other website, and it does not run on websites other than the supported sites listed in Section 7.

3. What the Extension processes locally, and does not collect

To detect and skip an ad, the Extension reads, in your browser only, the video player state and page elements of the site you are watching — for example whether the player is showing an ad, the position of on-screen Skip buttons, ad-related page elements and, on YouTube, ad-related fields in the player response that the site itself sends to your browser. This processing happens on your device, in real time, only while you are on a supported site.

Ad Skipper's own code does not collect, record, sell or send to the developer:

The Extension creates no account for you and asks for no sign-up.

4. Optional: Prime Video viewing insights

The Extension's Options page contains two optional sharing switches that apply to Prime Video only:

While a sharing switch is switched on, a Prime Video component of the Extension may transmit diagnostic and viewing-activity information over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to the insights/logging service endpoints configured in that component. That information may include: titles and content watched on Prime Video, playback and feature-usage events with timestamps, interactions with the player, and technical information such as browser, device and extension version and an installation identifier. This information is used only to understand viewing preferences in aggregate, to improve shows, recommendations and the extension's features, and to keep the service working.

Your choice: you can switch either or both switches off at any time in the Extension's Options page, and you can leave them off permanently. Switching them off stops that sharing, and switching ad skipping off for Prime Video in the popup also stops the Prime Video component from running on Prime Video pages. Ad skipping on all four sites works the same whether these sharing switches are on or off.

5. Settings the Extension stores

The Extension stores only your preferences, using Chrome's own storage (chrome.storage):

SettingWhere it is storedWhy
Per-site on/off switches for Prime Video, Hotstar, YouTube and SonyLiv Chrome sync storage (options) So your choices are remembered between videos and browser restarts. If you are signed in to Chrome sync, Chrome itself may sync these settings between your own browsers; we operate no server for this.
YouTube enabled state for the YouTube component Chrome local storage (enabled) So the YouTube component knows whether the popup's YouTube switch is on or off.
The two Prime Video sharing switches in Section 4 Chrome sync storage (shareInsights, sharePersonalData) So your sharing choices are remembered.

These settings stay stored until you change them, clear the Extension's data, or uninstall the Extension. Uninstalling the Extension removes its locally stored settings from your browser.

6. How information is used — limited use

Other than the optional insights service in Section 4 (while switched on) and disclosure that is required by law, we do not disclose your information to third parties.

7. Permissions, and why the Extension needs them

PermissionWhy it is needed
storage To save the settings in Section 5 — your per-site on/off switches and the optional sharing switches.
declarativeNetRequest To apply, locally in the browser, a small set of network rules that block requests to known advertising domains/paths on YouTube, so those ads are not loaded. The rules are contained in the Extension; your requests are not sent to us by this feature.
Host access — Prime Video / Amazon domains (*.primevideo.com, *.amazon.com, *.amazon.co.uk, *.amazon.de, *.amazon.co.jp) To run the Prime Video ad skipper on Prime Video pages, including Prime Video watched through regional Amazon sites.
Host access — Hotstar domains (*.hotstar.com, *.jiohotstar.com) To run the Hotstar ad skipper on Hotstar / JioHotstar pages.
Host access — SonyLiv domain (*.sonyliv.com) To run the SonyLiv ad remover on SonyLiv pages (non-live videos).
Host access — YouTube domains (*.youtube.com, *.youtu.be, *.music.youtube.com, *.youtube-nocookie.com; YouTube ad scripts run on www.youtube.com, youtube.com and m.youtube.com) To run the YouTube ad skipper/blocker on YouTube pages.

The Extension has no other permissions: it does not request access to all websites, browsing history, tabs, downloads, or your files.

8. Third-party components and websites

The YouTube component includes code from “YT Ads Blocker” v0.4.5, used with its author's written permission and identified, with its original licence, in the file NOTICE-YT-ADS-BLOCKER.md and the vendor/yt-ads-blocker/ folder inside the Extension package. That component processes YouTube player and page data locally in your browser in the same way described in Section 3, and stores only the enabled setting described in Section 5.

Prime Video, Amazon, Hotstar / JioHotstar, YouTube / Google and SonyLiv are operated by their respective owners. When you use those services, their own privacy policies apply to the information they collect. This policy covers only the Extension.

9. Data security and retention

Local processing stays on your device. Settings are held in Chrome's extension storage. Any transmission described in Section 4 is made over HTTPS. We retain no copy, on any server of ours, of your settings or of the player data the Extension processes locally, because the Extension has no developer backend that receives them.

10. Children

The Extension is a general-audience utility for video streaming sites. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and the change will apply from the version of the Extension stated on this page. Material changes to data practices will be reflected here before or at the time the corresponding Extension version is published.
